World War I papers and memorabilia chiefly regarding Thomas R. Pluecker [manuscript], 1914-1930.

This addition to the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection contains a portrait of Francis Ledwidge, Lance Corporal Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers matted with a quote from a Ledwidge letter to Lord Dunsany; 109 glass lantern slides of World War I scenes, chiefly from France; and "ABC Picture Blocks," a set of children's alphabet blocks portraying personalities and scenes from the first year of the war. Also, a copy of "The Mehun News," May 16, 1919, published by Ordnance Troops at Atelier de Mehun-sur-Yevre, France; a commercial photograph, 1916, "How French 270 guns are brought up to new positions as allied drive advances"; and printed miscellaney, 1916-1919, pertaining to two American soldiers, George A. Laurin and Lloyd J. Laurin including company roster, promotion certificate, and memorial for Lloyd, killed at Soissons, 1918 July 2. Finally the collection contains ca. 70 letters and other items regarding Thomas R. Pluecker, 64th U.S. Infantry, who died of pneumonia at A.E.F. Base Hospital no. 17, September 13, 1918, shrotly after his arrival in France. Letters home discuss his training and voyage to France. Other items include letters to his family from army chaplains, a photograph of his grave marker, a felt infantry banner with paper flower attached, and clippings.
